North Dallas brick homes and established neighborhoods in the 75201 area share the same fence challenges as Plano and Richardson: deep, dark clay soil that swells after spring rain and cracks hard in summer drought, mature shade trees that stress fence lines, and spring storms that can flatten a fence run or leave gates dragging off their hinges.
Plano Fence Company has served Dallas homeowners and property managers since 2015. We install and repair wood privacy fences, vinyl, chain link, ornamental metal, and automatic driveway gates on the clay-heavy terrain that dominates North Central Texas. Our crews are fully insured and AFA Member Installers. We work from your property line and build fences that hold in this climate.
Fencing in Dallas (75201): Clay Soil, Mature Trees, and Storm Risk
Dallas neighborhoods west of Central Expressway and bordering Plano are built on the Blackland Prairie, where clay soil is highly expansive and shifts with the seasonal wet and dry cycle. Post spacing, concrete depth, and whether posts are set in concrete or tamped directly into clay all matter here. A fence installed without accounting for clay heave will lean or rack within a year or two. We set posts deep, in concrete, and space them correctly for the soil type and fence load.
Mature post oak, cedar elm, live oak, and red oak are common across established Dallas blocks. These trees shade property lines and sometimes overhang fences. Root pressure, branch weight, and wind load all affect fence integrity. We work around existing trees, repair fence sections damaged by branch fall, and replace posts that have rotted at the ground line from moisture and seasonal clay movement.
Spring severe weather from March through June builds supercells and large hail across North Texas. Hail-dented siding and wind-stripped shingles are familiar after a bad cell passes. Fence panels get snapped, gates get bent, and post lines get flattened. We document storm damage honestly, repair what can be repaired, and replace panels and sections when repair is not the better spend. We can help you document the damage for an insurance claim.
Since 2015, we have installed and repaired fences across Dallas, Plano, Richardson, Frisco, and McKinney. We know the HOA covenants in West Plano subdivisions, the setback and height rules that vary across jurisdictions, and the clay-soil logic that keeps a fence standing here.

How a Fence Project Works in Dallas
Step 1: You call us at (940) 326-4616 or request a free on-site assessment. We visit your property, walk the fence line, check for utility lines, and discuss what you want to build or repair. If you have an existing survey or deed description of your property line, bring it. We work from the line you identify. We also check local setback rules, height limits, and any HOA architectural covenants that apply to your neighborhood. Dallas permit requirements vary by jurisdiction, and we can tell you what applies to your address.
Step 2: We provide a written estimate for labor and materials. For new fence, we price by linear foot (wood privacy starting at $27/ft, vinyl at $38/ft, chain link at $16/ft, ornamental metal at $42/ft). For repair, we estimate the scope (post replacement from $450, gate repair from $475, storm damage assessment is free). We order materials, pull any required permits, and schedule your job. Before we dig post holes, we call 811 for a free utility locate, because Texas law requires it and we follow it.
Step 3: Our crews arrive on the scheduled date. We set posts in concrete at the correct depth and spacing for clay soil and your fence type. We install rails, stringers, and boards or panels, checking for plumb and level as we go. For gates, we hang them square and install self-closing self-latching hardware if you choose it. We remove old material and haul debris. Your property is left clean, and we walk the finished fence with you before we leave.
Fence pricing in Dallas depends on material, length, terrain, and whether you are installing new or repairing existing. A new wood privacy fence on clay soil runs about $27 per linear foot installed (posts set in concrete, boards installed side-by-side or board-on-board). Vinyl privacy fence runs about $38 per linear foot. Chain link is about $16 per linear foot and is common for side yards and rental properties. Ornamental metal and wrought-iron entry gates run about $42 per linear foot for the fence and from $2,800 for an automatic driveway gate with an operator. Fence repair on existing posts starts at $450. Post replacement or fence section repair after storm damage starts at $450. A full fence replacement and removal job typically runs from $2,400 depending on material and linear feet. We also offer fence staining and restoration starting at $950 for wood fences that need refinishing. Call us at (940) 326-4616 for a free estimate. We will walk your property, measure the line, and give you a realistic price in writing.
